Quantifying the Gallup Strength Finder assessment for more nuanced and data-driven analysis.

Quantifying the Gallup Strength Finder assessment for more nuanced and data-driven analysis.

In a collaboration, LEONVC partnered with a prominent consulting agency to enhance their due diligence process by incorporating a custom quantitative model. This model was designed to augment the insights gained from the Gallup Strengths Finder, a tool traditionally used in executive team assessments but limited by its qualitative output. The objective was to provide a more nuanced, quantitative analysis of executive strengths, thereby enhancing the consulting firm's engagements with client executive teams.

As a critical energy infrastructure company in North America, Kinder Morgan operates the largest underground natural gas storage business in the United States, with a working gas storage capacity of up to 700 billion cubic feet.

This storage capacity combined with the company's robust pipeline network connections allows it to reliably serve millions of customers through the coldest winters and hottest summers.

Given their critical role in providing energy access, Kinder Morgan is focused on continually improving operations and gaining new insights into energy markets. However, challenges ranging from volatile energy demands to disparate datasets can create the potential for inefficiencies, time-consuming processes and delayed responses.

Challenge

The consulting agency faced challenges with the Gallup Strengths Finder's qualitative nature, noting its inability to deliver quantified insights crucial for strategic consulting. Despite identifying top strengths, the tool fell short in offering a statistical analysis or factor rating that could be leveraged for deeper, data-driven consulting engagements. Additionally, the assessment's lengthy completion time and extensive question set were seen as drawbacks, necessitating a more efficient and insightful approach.

Solution

LEONVC stepped in to address these challenges by quantifying the 34 characteristics of the Clifton Strengths assessment into its Calculation Engine, transforming qualitative strengths into actionable, quantitative data points. This innovative approach allowed for the development of a ranking system and the introduction of the Founder Potential metric, a unique measure designed to identify individuals with the potential to make a disproportionate impact within their environments.

Implementation

The implementation involved a detailed analysis of the Clifton assessment results, generating several dozen unique data points for each executive team member assessed. LEONVC's model was able to provide a nuanced view of leadership and team dynamics, offering a quantifiable metric that surpassed traditional assessments in depth and insight. This quantified approach enabled the consulting agency to rank executive teams more effectively, identifying key drivers of success and areas for development.

Outcome

The partnership yielded a robust and repeatable diligence model that significantly enhanced the consulting agency's ability to assess and advise client executive teams. The LEONVC Founder Potential score, in particular, emerged as a critical tool for identifying high-impact leaders, providing a relative indicator of their influence and potential. This model not only streamlined the assessment process but also enriched the consulting firm's engagements with deeper, benchmarked insights into team strengths and leadership effectiveness.

Conclusion

The collaboration between LEONVC and the large consulting agency represents a significant advancement in executive team assessment and consulting. By integrating quantitative analytics with the Gallup Strengths Finder, the agency now possesses a toolset for advising clients, underpinned by a more precise, data-driven understanding of leadership dynamics and team potential.
